Volunteer Helpers Program

Meaningful Service through our Volunteer Helpers Program
Our Volunteer Helpers Program allows a unique opportunity for others to share in the blessed work of giving and receiving. Volunteers will engage in a variety of tasks, from helping in our altar bread bakery to chores around the monastery, such as cleaning the retreat house, cooking, and tending to our gardens. The work will be adjusted to the skills and abilities of our volunteers. We believe that each daily task unites us spiritually as we serve one another, our community and the world.
Our local volunteer opportunities are beneficial for those who have time between studies, a temporary gap in work, or those seeking to discern their future path.
Candidacy Requirements
- Our volunteer program is for individuals between the ages of 21-55.
- Candidates must have good physical and mental health and be able to work in various areas and environments with the ability to get along with and work cohesively alongside others.
- Our volunteer program can be pursued for a period of 1-7 months, from April through November.
- Volunteers live on the monastery grounds, and as space is limited, we typically only take one volunteer at a time.
- Volunteers are asked to help us with community work for 4.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday. (Saturday and Sunday free, or Sunday and one other weekday of your choosing.)
Where You Will Stay & Time for Respite
As a volunteer, you will stay in our retreat house. You will be provided food to make your meals in the retreat house kitchen. In addition, you will be provided a certain amount of pocket money each month to take care of small needs you may have during your time with us. When you are not engaged in community work, the rest of your time is free.
Despite our monastic life of simplicity, there is much to do during your time off. Nestled in the high country of the southwest desert, the environment of our monastery is part of the attraction. This serene setting in the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains brings breathtaking views and the opportunity to spend your free-time immersed in God’s creation. There are plenty of hiking and walking paths to explore in the National Forest surrounding us, or you may choose to simply focus on your spiritual connection while sitting outside in the fresh air. You will also have access to the retreat house library, well-supplied with enriching reading materials.
